ALTAR CREATION - A CANVAS IN MOVEMENT
ALTAR - UN LIENZO EN MOVIMIENTO
ALTAR ... A sacred/creative space where soul "comes home"
ALTAR ... During life transitions
ALTAR ... Ancestors and lineage
ALTAR ... In grieving for a loved one
ALTAR ... Day of the Dead celebration
ALTAR ... For building community
ALTAR ... As ceremony and sacred practice
ALTAR ... In and with the natural world ALTAR ...As part of the therapeutic process
ALTAR... As anchor and holding container
ALTAR ... In relation to the great mystery, the elementals and ALL that wishes us well.
ALTAR-CREATION is a creative process I developed
as a result of several important influences in my life:
1. A strong attraction and relationship to the celebration of Day of the Dead- Dia de Muertos in my home country Mexico, and specifically the creation of "ofrendas"-offerings/altars
since my teenage years to process grief and loss.
2. Involvement in diverse ceremonial practices and a direct experiential relationship to altar in this context.
3. The concept of the open canvas I have encountered as a painter, and using this metaphor as the empty space we meet where all possibilities of creation, encounter, connection and revelation can arise.
Altar building is an ancestral spiritual and ceremonial practice that has been part of a large majority of cultures and spiritual traditions across time. And remains with us until this day.
In the "ALTAR CREATION" process we may connect with our altar as a place we set up as a sacred space to be, to relate, to pray, express intent and/or connect. A place of meeting and invocation, a symbolic space to express gratitude and honoring, to set intention, to give offerings and express our deepest heart desires. A place where we can meet ourselves with "big feelings" of pain, grief, longing, despair... and feel a sense of "not being alone" of respite, of being part of something larger-
whatever this might be for each of us.
A place where we can arrive at the meeting of ourselves and find a space inside of deeper and fuller connection.
A place where we can meet emptiness and start from a blank canvas, to create from here.
A place that can serve as an anchor while we are undergoing deep healing and transformation.
A space where all of the different parts of who we are can co-exist and find acceptance. A canvas for creation and expression that can grow, expand and transform as our lives do.
TESTIMONIALS
"When I first started doing the altar practice with Mireya Alejo Marcet, I was somewhat skeptical. I grew up without religion, and the practice felt very unfamiliar and alien to me. But Mireya made it very accessible, safe and real. I was astonished at how meaningful the process was for me. My altar expressed to me aspects of myself and my journey that were both surprising and evident. I was deeply touched by the beauty of this practice. I also felt a profound sense of sacredness that wasn't stultifying, but instead brought aliveness to my being. I am very grateful to be participating in this practice, and I attend it every time I can"

"While I have always had a deep love and appreciation for altars, I didn't grow up with this tradition. And I didn't really understand just how profound and soul-nourishing a practice altar-making could be until I participated in one of
Mireya Alejo's workshops.
Mireya's entire life is like a living, breathing, spiritually abundant altar. Given her bone-deep ties to indigenous practices, and her passion for soul-inspired creativity, she has found a unique and deeply transformative way to inspire
altar-making in people.
I had a profound experience at Mireya's altar creating workshop.
She created a space that was so safe, sacred, permission-giving and ABUNDANT, that I couldn't help but dive deep into
a journey that is still with me 'til this day.
If altar-making is a part of your spiritual practice, or if you've never done it before, please consider gifting yourself one or more workshops with Mireya. As her web site predicts,
your soul will want to sing!"

Mireya's altar-making process is gentle, grounded and transformative. She has a special way of holding space so that a very personal, specific, deep experience unfolds for each woman with her own altar-creation. No experience in art making or any spiritual tradition is necessary for this unique experience; it is really such a wonderful opportunity for women to connect with their deep soul, the knowing in our bones that we often ignore in our busy full lives and our tending to others. Come to one of Mireya's altar evenings and you will get to slow down, drop in and experience your own inner wisdom, beauty, creativity and intuition.
You will leave feeling deeply restored and renewed, clear on where you need to take your life in the coming season, and connected to a diverse group of women sharing their intentions for their own lives. Couldn't recommend more highly!
