_My relationship to art-making ...

When the Soul wants to experience something, she throws out an image in front of her and then steps into it.

Meister Eckhart

The process of art-making has become an essential part of my personal/spiritual journey and professional offering. Throughout my life, my inner world has continually demanded attention and expression. I found that art provided me with an
incredible container for my soul's voice.

It has given me a way to process, digest and integrate a whole range of feelings and sensations that so often emerge during transformative processes, without
judgment or censorship.  I see art as a process in movement that informs, expands, transforms, and anchors.

Over the years, I have discovered  how alive and dynamic one's relationship to image-making can be. So many times in the midst of this process, I've witnessed unexpected worlds emerging within me. Whether they have emerged through color, image, sound, or movement, they've brought countless new openings, greater spaciousness, and a much deeper connection to my body, self, other, and to life as a whole.  I find that art offers grounding and an embodied anchor for the journey of life itself.

Some of my favorite mediums include painting (mostly pastel and water colors), mask making, clay sculpture, movement and collage. Combining painting, collage work, natural textures and journaling, has provided me with a particularly powerful vessel for deep inner work.  Dance and Improvisation are important  practices for me as well.  They feed movement, spontaneity, dialogue and voice to the visual work.

Creative expression allows me to stay truly alive and awake in the world, and in an authentic connection to myself and Spirit. In the space I create with others through art making,  my intention is to offer an invitation, a sense of discovery and a sacred space for the journey into the mystery of the human psyche/Soul and it's expression.  As well as the interface with the environments and the natural world we are part of.

I praise the dance, for it frees people
from the heaviness of matter and binds the isolated to community.
I praise the dance, which demands everything:
health and a clear spirit and a buoyant soul.
Dance is a transformation of space, of time, of people,
who are in constant danger of becoming all brain, will, or feeling.
Dancing demands a whole person,
one who is firmly anchored in the center of his life,
who is not obsessed by lust for people and things
and the demon of isolation in his own ego.
Dancing demands a freed person,
one who vibrates with the equipoise of all his powers.
I praise the dance.
O man, learn to dance,or else the angels
in heaven will not know what to do with you.

Saint Augustine
